SkyMul was founded by Georgia Institute of Technology alumni with a broad background spanning robotics, computer vision, drones, manufacturing, 3D scanning and international business. From previous endeavors the group is listed on over 10 granted and pending patents. Individually the team has worked on automotive R&D, aerospace tooling, medical devices, and unmanned vehicles. The team holds degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State. In fall of 2018, SkyMul was awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant and was accepted into The Farm accelerator program.
While the team is new to construction, it is not new to manufacturing. Specifically aerospace manufacturing has many parallels to construction. In both workers and tools must travel to the structure and carefully move large sub assemblies with heavy machinery. Bringing the fundamentals of smart tools, flexible automation, and robotics to the construction space presents key opportunities in the structural concrete area and beyond which SkyMul aims to unlock.
